BL5-2 Green2Black
Acrylonitrile from renewable sources
Project duration: January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024
The aim of this initiative is to produce the basic chemical acrylonitrile, ACN, which is currently made from crude oil, on the basis of renewable raw materials, for example glycerine, and to establish both the production and processing of materials such as polyacrylonitrile, PAN, or carbon fibers made from it, CF, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers, ABS, nitrile rubber, AB, and their products in the former Rhenish Mining Area. In this way, part of the petroleum-based product tree is to be developed using renewable raw materials and the existing infrastructure is to be utilized.
