Focus Area III - Projects on the biological transformation of industries
The biological transformation of industry opens up new opportunities for the sustainable development of materials and the use of resources. Focus area 3 therefore focuses on the testing and application of bio-based coatings and functional surfaces. These technologies are to be used in various sectors, including medical technology, lightweight construction, the plastics and textile industries and industrial biotechnology. The development of bio-based additives and their integration into industrial processes are being researched, as are new production processes, e.g. for the recycling of plastics. These approaches reduce the use of fossil raw materials and increase the recyclability of materials so that conventional, environmentally harmful processes can be gradually replaced and the biologization of various branches of industry can be driven forward.
