Focus Area II - Fundamentals-oriented BoostLabs for Future Technologies
The development of new basic technologies is a decisive step towards a climate-neutral circular economy and the biological transformation of industrial processes. Focus area 2 therefore centers on basic research into two future technologies:
switchable adhesives (BoostLab 2) and biofunctional building blocks (BoostLab 3).
BoostLab 2 focuses entirely on switchable bio(hybrid) adhesives. In future, this technology should allow adhesive bonds to be released and restored as required (bonding and debonding on demand). As a result, products can be repaired or broken down into their pure components - an essential prerequisite for high-quality recycling and efficient use of resources.
BoostLab 3 focuses on the production-scalable functionalization of technical materials and surfaces. Biocompatible production methods thus enable the targeted integration of biological, physical and chemical functions in and on materials - an important contribution to more efficient industrial use.
